July Group Ride to Skyline Bl and the coast Empty July Group Ride to Skyline Bl and the coast

Post by JeffR Wed Jun 25, 2008 11:10 pm

Well, it seems that July 19th, 2008 has the most votes for the Skyline Bl ride. I can organize this if you would like since I have ridden this area a few times. There is Alice's Resturant, the coast, and many nice roads. It is a nice and very relaxing ride too. So I will come up with a map and if someone else would like to organize this ride please feel free. Can those who would like to make this ride please respond so we can get a feeling of who all would like to ride on July 19th.

Jeff,

Count me in! I'll trust your knowledge of the area and its restaurants. Alice's looks good. If we eat there, we'll have to do a photo of all our mega-scoots for their site (http://www.alicesrestaurant.com/index.html).

Two other great restaurants in the area are:

Buck's in Woodside--especially great for breakfasts!

and

Duarte's in Pescadero--a real historical landmark that specializes in Artichoke Soup!

Sorry, I can't make this ride, as I am committed to doing Scoot to the Moon, sponsored by Moving Targets Scooter Club. Actually, it's almost the same ride. There are two groups, one from SF and one from Los Gatos, that meet up at Alice's and then ride to Cameron's Pub in Half Moon Bay for games, music, etc. Maybe you'll want to join in? It would be great to have more big scoots.

Wish I could be riding with all of the gang, but I will be riding in BC, Canada. My annual travel event of the year.

Have a great ride everyone.

Gene,

I just heard that BC, Canada is going to be closed that weekend. Twisted Evil Have fun and take some pics if you get a chance up there. Are you going with Bill? I think you rode up there once with him if I remember.

Is there a route map posted for this ride? I thought I saw a link at one time, but could not find it again.

There is also a topic under the Bay area group rides where those who are going to ride to put their name on the list.

John,

In the calendar I have a link to the links and write up. But I was thinking we should leave the McDonalds at 10am to start the ride. So if others want to eat and gas up they should get there before 10am to do that. I was thinking if we all eat a breakfast we could make a late lunch at Alice's or have lunch in/around Santa Cruz and then end the ride at Alice's for coffee and to gas up if needed.

But please see the calendar for the link to the longer write up.

Thanks.

Hey BAMR's,

I'm back in the Bay Area and see the July 19th ride planned. My schedule looks clear and I'm pencilling in the ride on my calendar. I'll work out the logistics, maybe look for other North Bay riders, and see you at the meet-up spot.

Bonnie:

I had to back out of the ride, because we are going to a family campout running from 07/19--7/28/08.

See you on the next one...
O.k., my family's plans changed, because of all the wildfires and smoke, we won't be camping. I'm back on board for the ride.

July Group Ride to Skyline Bl and the coast Empty July 19th meet up

Post by oldfart@36 Tue Jul 08, 2008 9:35 am

Hi Bonnie,

I would love to meet up somewhere. I am not sure where the actual meet up point is as I don't have a GPS (I am a little slow with technology being a poor homeowner and all) and Jeff set the map up with coordinates. I live right down the street from Walmart off of Hegenburger and they have a starbucks and a Md's. Let me know if that is o.k. or if you want to meet somewhere else.

Mike, It will probably take us 60 - 75 minutes to get to the group starting point. So, I will be at MD's between 8:30 and 8:45 if that is ok. Is the MD's the one on the East side of 880? We can confirm when it gets closer to the 19th. How does that sound? Bonnie

Bonnie & Mike,

If you are leaving from Hegenburger and 880 it should only take about 30 mins to get to the start point. The bridge is $4 for the San Mateo.

John, Since this site has me a little confused, you are going on the ride this Sat.? If so, we can meet at Long's in WC and then stop in Oakland and pick up Mike. Jeff said the ride from Oakland to the meet site is 30 minutes. What time would you like to leave WC? We can plan on stopping for Mike about 9:15 I guess. What do you think?

Bonnie:

How about if we leave Long's at 8:45 a.m. That'll give us plenty of time to meet at McDonald's at Heggenberger & Hwy 880 in Oakland. Hey Tom, if you'd like to join us, meet us at Long's in Walnut Creek, per above.

See you Saturday, Bonnie...

Post by Dave E Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:52 pm

Hey all, here's a reminder about Saturday's ride coming up. I just got back from a trip down south. I went down 101 through King City, Paso Robles, Atascadero, etc. but returned via Highway 1. I was dressed correctly for the 99 degree heat in Paso Robles, but froze my buns coming up Highway 1. Santa Cruz to Half Moon Bay was chilly, so bring your mittens and your ear muffs. Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday.

Sam (and any other North Bay'ers), do you want to join up somewhere and ride down together? Let me know,

Dave is right about the weather. It may start off warmer but once you get on the coast it can get quite chilly. I wear sweaters and also bring a pair of rain pants to keep the wind off my legs. It seems to work good. We will make a few stops and if anyone gets cold just go to the front of the group, when riding, and then signal to pull off. If one is getting cold then the others will probably start to get cold too. Just a thought.

Good idea Jeff...It seems that many of us are going to be on this ride! Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun and very scenic. I took your advice and I'm going to wear a small camera around my neck and take many pics of the rides and also pics of us on our stops and such. I also would like to take some group pics for my album and also to share on this site. I downloaded picturestory and I will try do do that when I get back. Your's always seems so professional, and I would like to share mine with family and friends. See ya Saturday...
