Highway 84 - Pigeon Pass Empty Highway 84 - Pigeon Pass

On my ride to work this morning, I decided to take the back way ( beautiful weather, I'm riding my Burgman...). Part of my back way route is to go on Highway 84 behind Livermore, up and over Pigeon Pass and down to the 680 intersection on the other side. Well, I had a surprise today when I was approaching the pass area, the new, re-routed road is fully in place and traffic has been completely re-routed off of the old road.

The new road is a lot smoother, better surface but it's not like the old road was for riding. It's very straight, level, hardly any curves, etc.. unlike the old "fun" road.

I saw that they have removed all of the pavement from the old road bed and don't know if they are going to repave it to provide one direction of travel while the new roadbed provides the other, or if they are abandoning the old road bed completely.

Anyway, it's a safer, easier ride... but not nearly as much fun!
